BIOGRAPHY

Jeremy has practiced law for over 42 years, with a principal focus in the bankruptcy and bankruptcy litigation areas. From 1990 until 2020, he was a partner at Pachulski, Stang, Ziehl & Jones, LLP, a nationally recognized bankruptcy boutique. Mr. Richards has represented all parties in large and complex bankruptcy cases around the country, including debtors, trustees, creditor's committees, secured creditors, lenders, asset purchasers and equity holders.  He has also successfully litigated a wide range of actions in bankruptcy court, including complex fraudulent transfer claims, veil piercing and substantive consolidation and claim allowance and subordination. His industry experience runs the gamut from manufacturing, service industries, software, retail, entertainment, real estate and financial services. 

 

Most recently, Jeremy was in-house counsel to The Forest Road Company, a diversified lender and fund manager. During his time at Forest Road, Mr. Richards oversaw lending in the tax credit and renewable energy finance areas, worked on a number of acquisitions and an equity raise for the company, supervised loan documentation and collection, set up a registered investment advisor and broker dealer, and helped negotiate the acquisition of IP and content for an NFT platform set up by Forest Road.

  • In re George Marciano, USBC, C.D. Cal -complex, cross border involuntary bankruptcy, resulting in the recovery of over $100m.

  • In re Mineral Park USBC, De.- bankruptcy and sale of copper mine in Arizona and unwinding of forward mineral trades.

  • In re People's Choice Home Loan, Inc. USBC, C.D. Cal.- counselled debtor through one of the first subprime mortgage bankruptcies of the Great Recession.

  • In re Loew's  Cineplex Entertainment, USBC, De- represented the creditors committee in the reorganization of the movie theatre chain.

  • In re General Cinema Theatres, USBC, De- represented the creditors committee in the successful auction and sale of this movie theatre chain.

  • In re Peregrine Systems, USBC, S.D. Cal- represented the debtor in a successful reorganization of this public software company in which equity retained an interest. 

  • In re Kona Grill, Inc. USBC, De.- represented the debtor in the reorganization and sale of this Arizona based restaurant chain.

  • In re Meruelo Maddux Properties, Inc., USBC C.D. Cal.- represented a secured creditor in the acquisition of key commercial properties out of the debtor’s bankruptcy.

  • In re Thorpe Insulation Company, USBC, C.D. Cal- represented related debtors with substantial asbestos related liabilities in the confirmation of a plan containing extensive third-party releases.

  • In re Sun World International, USBC, C.D. Cal-represented the equity committee of one of the largest growers, packers, haulers, and marketers of fresh fruit and produce in California,

  • Advised major California based construction and engineering company on successful out of court financing and restructuring.

  • In re Washington Mutual, Inc. USBC, De- advised an ad hoc senior bondholder group.

  • In re Barry’s Jewelers USBC ,C.D. Cal- represented an official bondholder committee in the successful reorganization of this 130-store retail chain.

  • In re Liberty Asset Management, USBC, C.D. Cal- represented the creditors committee in the pursuit of assets and recoveries in an alleged real estate Ponzi scheme.

  • In re Mission Community Hospital, USBC, C.D. Cal.- represented this community hospital in a successful reorganization involving restructuring of government owed debt.

  • In re Plainwell, Inc., USBC, De- successful sale of this leading US paper manufacturer and resolution of substantial Superfund claims.

  • In re Yari Film Group Releasing, USBC, C.D. Cal.- represented the creditor’s committee in the bankruptcy of an independent motion picture producer/distributor.

  • In re Woodside Homes, USBC, C.D. Cal- represented 180 of 200 affiliated companies in the bankruptcy of this large, privately owned regional home builder.

  • Anna’s Linens, USBC, C.D. Cal- represented the creditors committee for what at the time of filing was a 261 chain of home goods stores.
